Hi there! This blog is a mix of everything I cover as a freelance writer: art and design, fashion, celebrity gossip, shopping, and travel. In addition to writing a shopping column for amNY for over a year, I've been published in the New York Daily News, the Houston Chronicle, New Jersey Monthly, and Time Out New York, as well as over 100+ articles for websites like More.com, SheKnows.com, YourTango.com, VenusZine.com and Yahoo! Shine, among others.

For the past year, I have been writing a Flea Market Find column for amNY. Every week, I scour New York’s flea and antiques markets, looking for interesting or unique objets d’art. Below are some of my favorite finds from the past twelve months…
1. Body Oil – A flea market may not be the first place you think of when you want to go perfume shopping, but at the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market, you can find over 50 kinds of body oils for sale, ranging from floral scents to heavy musks for just $4 for a 1/3 oz roll-on bottle. “Booty Call” is my absolute favorite and, despite it’s name, is mainly comprised of edible fruits with a citrus top note. At the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market. W. 39th St. between 9th and 10th Avenues.
2. Custom-Made Bikinis – Bikini season is upon us. However, for those without a suit, head over to the flea market at McCarren Park. There, British transplant Jana Kennedy of Knickers and No Fur Coat will measure you at her booth and, within a week, make a customizable, 1950s-inspired bikini set for you for only $50. At The Market in McCarren. Williamsburg.
3. Book Covers – Just because you like to read on the subway doesn’t necessarily mean you want to broadcast your love of vampire romance novels to the world. Instead, keep your reading under wraps with these Kraft paper book jackets. They feature original drawings by American artists and are only $12 each from Book City Jackets. At the Brooklyn Flea Gifted Holiday Market. (This is a seasonal market in December only. I hope they bring it back; it’s pretty fab!)
4. Telephone Purse - In the market for a novelty phone, but want something more chic than a hamburger? This fully-functioning 1970s Dallas Handbags telephone purse will allow you to place calls by switching the on/off button inside of the bag and hooking up to a landline. $100. At the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market. W. 39th St. between 9th and 10th Avenues.
5. Popsicle Stick Lamp - Popsicle sticks have always been a favorite material for children’s craft projects, but who knew they could also be made into furniture? This 1960s-era lamp is made entirely of different sized Popsicle sticks and comes ready with a light bulb and electrical cord. $100. At the Antiques Garage Flea Market. 112 West 25th St. between 6th and 7th Avenues.
6. Seashells - If you can’t get away for a little sun this winter, make due with a stay-cation and turn your apartment into a beach oasis instead. All you need is a Frankie Avalon movie, a space heater, and some of these pretty seashells. $.50 and up. At the GreenFlea Market at Columbus Avenue between W. 76th and W. 77th Streets.
7. Handmade Magnets – Among the inexpensive finds and designer knockoffs at the Aqueduct Flea Market, there are also several artisans in residence selling crafts. We spotted these beautiful handmade magnets, in food, flower, and animal shapes, for only 50 cents each or twelve for $5. At the Aqueduct Flea Market. Rockaway Blvd and 110th St., Ozone Park, Queens.
8. Violin – Even as an adult, learning to play a musical instrument offers many benefits, including increased brain plasticity, and it need not be expensive. There are many affordable instruments for sale at the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market, like this $200 vintage German violin. At the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market. W. 39th St. between 9th and 10th Avenues.
9. Mod Chair – If you’re on the hunt for a fun “statement” chair, but don’t want to pay designer prices, look no further than the GreenFlea Market. Kitty McBride of the Divine Chair Company sells colorful, cool chairs, made from vintage frames that she has reupholstered with modern fabrics. $400 and up. At the GreenFlea Market at Columbus Avenue between W. 76th and W. 77th Streets.
10. Vintage Plaid Shirts - It’s fitting that we found this collection of assorted, vintage plaid shirts in Williamsburg, where plaid-loving hipsters wear nothing else. $20+ each. At Artists & Fleas. 129 N. 6th St., Brooklyn.
11. Wristwatch Wall Clock – Crafted to look like the ultimate 1980s boardroom status symbol, this kitschy Ronald Regan-era wall clock is 32 inches tall and made of lightweight plastic, so it can be easily hung up. $18. At the Antiques Garage Flea Market. 112 West 25th St. between 6th and 7th Avenues.
12. Tin Signs - Painted tin signs gained popularity in the 1920s and were used to advertise everything from soda pop to cars. These retro signs feature cheeky sayings and are only $12 each. At the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market. W. 39th St. between 9th and 10th Avenues.
